SELECT dbfname
LOCATE FOR xyz
SCAN REST FOR xyz
  DELETE
ENDSCAN

but this will not do better than delete for ... except if one record is locked by another user

Christina, the problem may come from the 'another user' if he locks the entire file for a long time.
