If in doubt, reboot.
Is he using a local email client like Outlook Express? If so, set up a new 
account and see if that works. Also there is a check box to include an 
account when accessing an email system.

I doubt that the ISP has suddenly started blocking port 110 or 25. These 
ports are defined to be used by everyone for special programs like email. 
Some ISPs use other port numbers for emails. Are you sure he was using 110?

I know, that's what I'm trying to explain to him but he's becoming 
belligerent. How can opening up port 25 have anything to do with port 110? 
I've never blocked 110 on any of his computers.

POP3 is inbound and uses port 110

SMTP is outbound email and uses port 25

The are totally separate processes.
