Yes. That is the point. The planet has warmed considerably in the last 50 years. 2012 has set the record for the warmest 6 months since the U.S. has started keeping records in 1800(? not sure of the exact date).
A second problem is that the acidity of the oceans is rising from rising CO2 levels being absorbed in the water. Special sea critters that built limestone reefs out of CO2 can only do their job at low acidity and are under stress. Further increase in acidity will kill them off. (Google "ocean acidity and coral reefs"). There are hundreds of articles about it.
