Reminding people of slavery over and over again is not a healthy thing, it gives too many people an excuse to fail.

My guess is that more people were trying to repress slavery from the 60s thus it is only re-emerging today in that people are talking about it from an educational POV. I just completed a history class on Early US based on slavery.
