It does seem obvious that the Metro version is not seriously intended for use by desktop business applications. Combine that with the fact that their first release was a 'Developer Preview', and I conclude that the primary reason for Metro was to provide a development environment for portable devices. Unfortunately, in the rush to the Cloud/Pad market, it seems several things got left out of the business-as-usual half of things. I foresee a long Win 7 period, followed by a leapfrog over Win 8 to whatever follows it.
