The original Linksys/cisco firmware is really crap... the dd-wrt software just transforms it... look on their site for other manufacturers/models you can use it on

ADSL or cable? I love my Linksys WRT54G. If you reflash the bios (see www-wrt.com) with a new OS then you can quadruple the output power and set up all host of great things. The dd-wrt site lists loads of hardware that it can be used on and it is very versatile. The wrt54 router can be picked up really cheap on EBAY (I bought my spare one for about $5 your money.
