Mike: The big benefit of 64-bit is the ability to have a lot more main memory, thus avoiding slow transfers to/from swapspace on disk. For an program to benefit, it must (a)be able to access more memory, and (b)have the need to do so. I.e., If the app can do its job in less than 4 Meg, then it doesn't need to be 64-bit. Discussions on the advantages of 64-bit usually mention two classes of applications - Large-file video editing and databases - which makes sense. From that, I'd expect that the 64-bit version of MariaDB would be important, but that apps using data from that database would be just fine in 32-bit form.
