AFAIK VFP has always (well, since CDX became available) has had the ability to use an index if it needs to. If it has an index and can be useful to the query/filter/whatever then it gets put to use. You don't HAVE to create a CLIENTID+STATUS+PLAN compound index if you don't want to. Having one each on the three fields should do it.
