Traditionally, users buy and then runn an application locally on their PC, or on their own network, and all the data is there. In the SaaS model, they use the software on a subscription basis and it is hosted offsite, in the 'cloud'. So they would use a thin client approach, or run it in a browser. Good: There is a reduced need for the customer to worry about their own in-house networks and systems, and because the infrastructure offsite is generally shared between many users, the cost can work out much lower. It is good for the software vendor because they can roll out upgrades and so on very easily, and have a guaranteed revenue stram. Bad: This approach is just not suited to many types of application, broadband internet is by no means universal even in first-world countries, the internet goes down a lot. -- Alan Bourke alanpbourke (at) fastmail (dot) fm _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: ProFox@leafe.com Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/1324297754.31359.140661013471...@webmail.messagingengine.com ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
