Hi, Tracy

Ever since Win XP I have been turning off Write Caching, and advising
others to do so as well. When I went to do that on my current machine,
Win7-64bit and SATA drives, when I unchecked the box I got something
like "You cannot change this setting"!

On researching this I learned that somewhere between Win7, the drivers,
and the logic on the SATA drive itself, the system has decided that it
knows what to do and is not interested in hearing from me. It
apparently depends on the drive manufacturer - there are reports of
drives where write caching cannot be turned ON, and ones like mine where
it cannot be turned OFF.

I've decided to hope that they have the problems solved and not worry
about it. I do have to say that I haven't seen data corruption in a
very long time.
