Andy,
Yes, sorry imagecontrol (too much .Net for me recently!!!). I found you are
best having a container with an image control in it which has stretch set as
Isometric or Stretch (if you don't mind about proportions) anchored to the
container so it resizes accordingly and in turn anchor the container to the
form. If you are not interested in resizing then you can simply add the
imagecontrol to the form but I find the container approach works the best.
Obviously size the container to the runtime size of the form  in the init()
of the form.

No, I had tried form.picture which was when I found out I couldn't re-size
it.
By 'picturebox' do you mean an image control? - I thought I'd tried that as
well but I'll have another go.
I was only trying gdi+ in desperation - it looks powerful but doesn't seem
like a load of fun to use
