! Support Our Troops! ! (At Least Until They Come Home - The Tear Them To Shreds!)
By the way, being a veteran does not mean you are free later in life to make absurd, outlandish and opportunistic political accusations with impunity. Rep. Murtha isn't merely "disagreeing with the war"; his comments and actions go well beyond that, and are aimed mainly at positioning him to take over the Democrat leadership in the House, which apparently has been reserved for shrill kooks since 2004. As such, he is subject to the same "opposition research" and political pamphleteering that every other political wannabe has endured since the beginning of the Republic, including, by the way, the very Founders of our Republic. The things that were said about George Washingon, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, et al in their time makes the Swift Boats look pretty lame by comparison. Do you read any history? ! ! What a bunch of lowlife scum. If you disagree with ! someone, fine: ! argue about the issue. But to go back and smear the military record ! of the person you disagree with - well, that seems to be Page One of ! the Standard Republican Playbook these days. Excuse me, but all those of us who support the war ask for is "civil disagreement". But the Democrat playbook hasn't had "civil disagreement" in its vocabulary since 2004. Instead, "Bush is Hitler" and "Bush is the worst Terrorist Ever" and "Bush was a Drunk" and "Bush was a coke head" and "Bush is an Idiot", "Republicans (even black ones) are Racist White Christian Nazis" etc. is all we hear. Of course lately I got to add to that list "Bush orchestrated 9/11 so some Jew can reap a big insurance winfall and the neocons could take over the planet" and "Bush Murdered JFK" to my list thanks to the meticulous research of Leland Jackson who found some very well funded videos on Google supposedly proving it. They don't merely say this was an ill-chosen move, they claim this was all based on a deliberate lie, that the people in charge are all bloody criminals who need to be carted off to the hooskow. They accuse neoconservatives of being traitors to their country by definition according to their public policy platform, and absurdly argue that this is the bloodiest, worst war ever, everything we're doing is totally wrong, we're losing, etc. The Democrats get to make vile charges and accusations with hyper-superlative rhetoric under the banner of "free speech" and "supporting our troops" but let a Republican stand up to one or two of their phony so-called "war heros" and question THEIR bona fides, and, why, it's the lowest of lows, the most horrible thing. I'm kind of getting tired of the double standard. <slight-change-of-topic> Your own posts Ed are seldom aimed at the medulla oblongata anymore. You seldom merely list the points of your disagreement with policy, and more often than not are out to assert outright skullduggery rather than persuade anybody of anything useful besides that all Republicans are disingenuous hypocrites lacking in any 'integrity' or redeeming value at all. How now can we have a rational debate about anything? I noted your recent exchange with Charlie Coleman (who like Steven Wolfe is one of a very few conservatives among us who has managed to avoid your infamous twit list because they DON'T respond in kind to your mocking tone) on the matter of his notions of the doctrine of salvation. Everything you ever once accused me of doing---for instance, and especially, arguing against somebody else's point, not that of the person to whose post you were responding---you yourself did, with a sort of mocking tone that clearly indicated you were trying to make Charlie absurd and not really understand his position. And while you claim you 'twit' certain people out (yours truly included) you always manage to throw in some snide sideways comment about them indirectly, in the context of somebody else's engaging response---a sort of smug 'get thee behind me' remark that, again, goes beyond mere disagreement and headlong into personal attack. You are also singularly unforgiving and intolerant, all that BS about you being so large minded and open hearted by your comrades notwithstanding. So you have no legs to stand on when it comes to pleading for civility, or at least, no taller legs than anyone else, in my humble opinion, no matter how grateful we all are for your altruistic support of this forum. </slight-change-of-topic> - Bob ! ! -- Ed Leafe ! -- http://leafe.com ! -- http://dabodev.com ! ! ! ! !
