Hey everyone,
I just received this message, and thought that I'd pass it on in
case anyone is feeling in a generous mood today. I'll let the message
speak for itself.
Begin forwarded message:
As was reported earlier, Joe Martuscello was diagnosed with cancer
several months
ago. If you don't know him, Joe is one of our members - a referee
and an instructor. His
two children, Gina and Tom, are also referees. In addition to
being active in the referee
unit, Joe and his wife Vikki are active in Spencerport Soccer and
both Gina and Tom are
players as well.
Joe has been in and out of hospitals constantly over the last
several months. In addition
to the cancer treatments, he has had complications from surgery
that have involved
exteneded hospital stays and additional surgery.
In the next couple of weeks, Joe will be going to Houston to
undergo specialized
treatments which I can't begin to explain. In addition to the
standard health care costs,
travel and lodging during these treatments will create a
significant financial burden on
Joe and his family. We are asking you - the members of the
Rochester Unit - to help out
if you can.
Joe hasn't been able to referee at all this year. So maybe you
could do one game for
him. If you could donate your game fee from tonight's game - or
last night's game - or
tomorrow afternoon's game - maybe we can work this season's games
for him. Whether
it was a U8 or Men's Premier, referee or assistant referee, it
would be much appreciated.
Of course, this is just a suggestion. If you don't have any games
at the moment, or if you
want to give more or less than a game fee, we certainly welcome
your contributions.
And whether you are a first year official or a 30+ year official,
whether you are a good
friend of Joe's or a friend who hasn't met him yet, I urge you to
join us in supporting one
of our own. Three of our own if you consider all of the referees
in his family. If you want to
give $5 or $20 or $100 that's up to you. But please try to give
something.
For various accounting reasons, it is not prudent for us to funnel
this through the local unit.
Therefore, if it needs to be said, you'll have to trust me. If you
want to contribute, please
make the check out to Tom Ross and send it to me at 61 Laredo Dr.,
Rochester, NY,
14624.
Because Joe is leaving within the next couple of weeks, we want to
have this done
quickly. So please send your check today - or tomorrow. But no
later than Friday, June
16. After allowing a couple days for mail delivery, I'll probably
close out by the following
Tuesday. If I receive anything after that I'll just return it -
but hopefully you'll all do this
today.
Thanks for your support. Any questions, contact me at

Rochester Referee Unit
I know Tom Ross very well, and he is indeed trustworthy. So if you
can spare a few bucks, this is a good cause.
