New theory on crash of Air India 787 suggests major systems failure
Clearer video appears to show that the RAT -- the Ram Air Turbine --
had deployed on the 787 just after takeoff and before the crash. The
RAT is a small wind turbine designed to provide electrical power
and/or hydraulic power in case of extreme emergency with those
systems. On the 787 it reportedly deploys automatically and cannot be
deployed by pilots.
