Real ID for plane travel enforcement may be delayed another two years
The Real ID law was passed 20 years ago. Enforcement has been delayed
multiple times since then. Currently, apparently under 60% in U.S.
have Real ID credentials. The latest enforcement date was supposed to
be this May, but now plans are apparently in the works to perhaps push
it out another two years on a "flexible" basis. That is, in theory it
would be required, but at airports there were be flexibility in terms
of letting people fly without it, presumably based on other factors.
The whole concept, rushed into law in the wake of 9/11, was flawed from
the start, and twenty years later it has become a laugh line. -L
