I'm sure you're right and it is my error. But FWIW, the sysupgrade reported success and the kernel compile on the new system ran without complaint and since I've moved back to the upgrade'd systems I've been running without issue. I'm happy to send my console transcript if it is of interest to anyone, but I'd guess not really a good use of anyone's time. Really my question here was just: is it expensive or risky to include the em driver in the ppc64 release build? If so is there a preferred PCI network card I should buy? And again, respect to all the developers that contribute so much to us. I'm fine as is.
