um, why not? it sounds to me like this should be possible. acquire the source, 
make the appropriate patches, compile and package.

Or, if that really isn't possible, it would be possible to compile for ppc from 
an intel machine using the 6.1 packages as a base and patching, then cross 
compiling.

Now, mind you, I am not a coder. I tried to learn how to become one (on the 
fly). BAD IDEA. I also tried to port a text to speech package from linux over 
to OpenBSD. I never could get it to work. I know, I spent 6 months trying.

Anyway, from what I have read, making the PPC packages should be doable, but I 
don't have all the knowledge to do it properly other than by basic general 
instructions.

so, is cross compiling a viable option?
