This could change, there is early stage work in the IETF "Using TLS in Applications" (UTA) working group to re-introduce port 465 as the preferred MUA to MTA service: http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-uta-email-deep-00 whether that work gains IETF consensus and mail provider mind-share remains to be seen. -- Viktor.
