Two Summer Schools on Open-Source Geo Tools Registration now is open for two International Summer Schools introducing to open-source geo tools, organized by Spatial Ecology and held at the University of Basilicata in Matera, Italy. Without assuming previous programming skills, geo data users will be guided to immerse into the power and wealth of open-source tools, ranging from desktop to high-performance data processing. Specifically, experts from the rasdaman team will introduce to Big Geo Data.
Organized into two consecutive summer schools, the following topics will be addressed: Spatio-Temporal Data Analyses Using Free and Open Source Software (6th-10th June 2016) An immersive 5 day experience opening new horizons on the use of the vast potential of the Linux environment and the command line approach to processing data using Bash, AWK, Python, GRASS, QGIS, GDAL/OGR, R, PKtools, and Openforis. Newbies who have never used a command line terminal will be guided to a stage allowing them to understand and use advanced open source data processing routines. Hands-on Open Source Drone Mapping and High Performance Computing for Big Geo Data (13th-17th June 2016) Another 5 day immersion experience will be on advanced data processing using high performance computers (HPC), cloud computing, and spatio-temporal raster processing, as well as emerging technologies such as drone mapping. The course will focus on how to maximise computation performance using first multicore techniques on single computers, then switching to distributed clusters of computers using grid engine schedulers, and ultimately data analytics with the rasdaman Big Data Analytics Engine. Spatial Ecology is a non-profit organization standing for Data Affectionists for Free & Open Source Solutions. Goal is helping people to learn free and open source technologies for spatio-temporal data analysis, modelling, and big data processing.
