GIS that leverages such intuition can be used with minimal training by average citizens to solve everyday tasks. Unfortunately, common-sense thinking may lead to erroneous, inconsistent, and contradictory interpretations. Geographically embedded networks, in particular, are susceptible to these problems. People may misjudge network functions and meanings, and overestimate their own interpretive ability. With respect to intuitive thinking, networks may: imply order, scale, or regions; distort metric space; and foster incorrect conclusions about missing data. Awareness of these issues can be used to improve visual representations and reinforce the purposes of analytic output. § Biografia: Alan Glennon is a 2013 graduate of the doctoral program in geography at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His research is on spatial computation and geographically embedded networks. Glennon previously studied and worked at Western Kentucky University (MSc Geoscience 2001) - where he used GIS extensively for mapping caves and geysers. Prior to his graduate work, he served as a United States National Park ranger for nine years, including stations at Mammoth Cave, Carlsbad Caverns, and Great Basin National Parks. Dr. Glennon currently is a Visiting Scholar at ISEGI, Universidade Nova de Lisboa. A entrada é gratuita, mas limitada aos lugares existentes.
