Octave is one reason from what I remember. The new version fixes this problem (see octave from OpenBSD-WIP) but the C++ situation in base does not permit the update to be committed. So please stick to gnuplot 4 until then. I had gnuplot 5 diff as well a year ago and held it back for this exact reason.
