well, it's not something i did now. i've been using it since we updated to emacs23 and obviously i've been thinking how to integrate it, but i can't think of any decent way to do it. athena flavor is probably only used by people who care about how fast it works, therefore i've directly modified it. unfortunately there are some flavor-independent bits there that i disable globally. i've been reducing their amount and the libossaudio (--without-sound) is the last one i believe.
