I have no opinion whether it makes sense to spend time on updating this DE that was long abandoned by upstream. IIRC someone suggested to remove it a few years back.

You can simply ask them if they still want to be maintainer. You might even get a reply indicating why they preferred not to update the old version. If you don't get an answer or the mail bounces you then have a good reason to remove them.
