CVS doesn't remember dirs, so it will be gone when the last item in it is gone. Except that deleted files end up in the Attic so you can revive them, but the principle is that CVS only tracks individual files, and creates dirs as needed. One has to run cvs up with a prune flag to remove now-empty dirs, which is what cvs does at the end of checkouts, IIRC. > 2.
