I'm trying to make a port for irssi-silc plugin from
<http://penguin-breeder.org/silc/>. I think the best way to do it is
via a subpackage of irssi. I found information about the scripts/ dir
for ports, and I think that's the way I'm going to do most of the
stuff for it, but there is one thing right now I thought I'd better
ask about - that silc-plugin thing modifies the files that we're
patching, so patches don't apply cleanly. Now, should I patch their
patches, or the better approach would be prepare a different set of
patches for that, and either place them eg. in patches/silc/ and
define PATCHDIR=patches/silc/ when the SUBPACKAGE=-silc is called, or
maybe have them all in patches, but name those differently and eg. set
PATCH_LIST=silc-patch-* ?

If anyone wants to see what I have so far, please let me know.

Thanks in advance for any pointers, suggestions, or cluestick as to
better ways to do things.
