Sorry for replying to my own email but I found that I had mistakenly added the flavor ldap to the cyrus-sasl2 install causing the problem. I was able to fix it by installing the base cyrus-sasl2 package, install openldap then rebuild the cyrus-sasl2 package with the ldap flavor and pkg_add -r it in.
