freetype2 and fontconfig are part of X.org.  if something (gd) uses
these, then it has everything to do with X.org.  sorry, but your
statement above is just wrong.

so you did not test a snapshot (the gd update happened 7 months ago)
and wish to make snide remarks about issues in the release.
