I found something about this in function ApplyModifiers in /usr/src/contrib/bmake/var.c. I can't explain it well, but it seems to me that : is treated merely as a delimiter. It does not give an error for the last character being : . If there is a specification that the last character should not be a : , then this is a bug :) I am not sure about that :) Regards.
