Have you ever looked at a monitoring application called zabbix. I have configured it with pmacct to display per port traffic.. and it seem to be working quite well ...

The usual way. If you actually have your 'aggregation' value set to
'class', then switch it to, say, 'class,src_host,dst_host'.
