Yes, afaict this is what is going on. Please remind that this little plugin is 98.47% Triode's work. I've never even seen the code of the spotifyd helper. Therefore I've very limited knowledge of how this "my" plugin works.

Is direct ogg processing by for example squeezelite could improve SQ?
Only if you don't touch potato chips for more than 48h before listening to the music. The chips' noise would negatively impact the overall perception.
