This thread deal with a test version of BBCiPlayer currently 1.4.x .
As it is a test version, a new release may break functionality.

There are two issue:
1. BBCiPlayer maintenance
2. Addition of DASH protocol support to ensure plugin longevity and
ensure no panic when BBC stops supporting some of the current protocols.

Since Feb the 1.2x version of the BBCViPlayer plugin has need a few
updates. The updates have had to be applied by hand because only Triode
can update his repository and he has not been contactable for many
months . The V1.4.x of the plugin brings all the updates together so
that a single install brings the plugin up to date.

To install the plugin read first page but essentially you need to add
the repo URL to the Settings/plugins page, delete BBCiplayer plugin 1.2
and probably restart LMS. Then you will be given options to install 1.4

The 1.4.x plugin implements the DASH protocol but as a default the 1.4.x
plugin will not use DASH as default. The default protocol is HLS so a
user should have any problems after installation - if there are problems
then it is an installation issue.

To use DASH change the BBCiPlayer settings so that DASH is the preferred
format (i.e. left most). If you have only DASH as the supported format
- some Listen Again program may not work.

BBC have not publicly announced DASH so as such the current availablity
of DASH on BBCiPlayer is a "beta" trial whose characteristics may change
when it goes into production. So at the moment DASH offer higher audio
quality than HLS but the higher quality may be part of the beta trial
(e.g. testign load, rebuffering) - the higher quality could go away.

The most experimental (and as such problematic & buggy) feature of the
plugin is the ability to go back up to 2 hours on live streams. The UI
for this feature will also change a bit in next version.

The BBCiplayerExtras plugin has also been upodated to make use of the
DASH availability. If using Extras the most safe setting has DASH,
HLS, MP3 and Flashaac.
