The current XML feed format is not suited to deliver all the programs
which are available since the number of programs has been extended
beyond 7 days. As it stand the XML is noticeably slower to load for R4
compared to say R1 due to the number of program. BBC iPlayer has 30 day
catchup and also archive which means program such as Desert Island
Disks, In our Time and You and Yours each have 510 programs - the XML
feed for R4 for all programs would run into 1000's.

The BBC may also have pragmatically decided not to update the XML feed
/content & format so that the BBC iPlayer website has an advantage over
the syndicated feeds.

Out of curiousity, what is the catchup window for iPad and Android BBC
iPlayer Radio Apps ? If it is only 7 days then expect I'd another round
of changes.
