Yes, that's on the roadmap for iPeng 8 together with the AppleWatch
integration.
There are a few caveats, though:
- Apple is taking a weird stance on Today-Widgets and disallows a lot
of them for reasons nobody fully understands, so no guarantees taken.
My original plan to include volume control there will likely not be
accepted AFAIS.
- Today Widgets still are not permanently active, they get launched
when they are being shown so the widget will then have to contact the
server and retrieve the latest information. There's likely going to be
a delay due to this. This is actually even more problematic on the
watch, here, you will probably have to keep the App running to have a
decent experience. Which brings us to...
However....
Even today you can also keep iPeng running in the background in which
case it will show the information on the lock screen and you can use the
lock-screen controls and volume buttons.
Enable "Settings->iPeng Settings->Preserve Connection".
This will obviously increase the battery consumption. iPeng will keep
running as long as your battery load is >50% and as long as the selected
player is currently playing, otherwise it shuts down after 5 minutes. It
will permanently stay active while the iThingy is connected to a
charger.
