It should run automatically if both these options is enabled under the
settings of the specific scanning module
- Module is enabled and possible to use 
- Include in automatic scans and "Scan All"

Plus that the "Automatic rescan" option in the "Custom Scan
Settings/Various Settings" section needs to be enabled.

Is this the case in your setup ?

Is the "Update plugins automatically" option enabled at the bottom of
the LMS Settings/Plugins tab ?
