I'd like to concur on what mps has reported. Sometimes iPeng will not cut the music when the phone rings. I found it also quite laggy to transmit orders to the server (vol change or track change, with either touch or keys.) For what I've seen, when this happens, the cover art is not shown on the screensaver when you double-press the home button. When it does display, iPeng catches the incoming call it seems, and commands are responsive.
I tend to think there is a bug where iPeng gets incapacitated somehow, but it doesn't die. When iPeng does not display the cover art, I have found that iPeng is still listed as a running app, yet when calling it with a touch of the icon, I've got the blue penguin load screen as if it were starting from scratch. Right now I can't reproduce this state, iPeng stubbornly refuses to fail ;) I'm using an iPhone 4, up to date. I have the playback feature but I am not using it, and the player in the iPhone is not powered on. (in response to Ikabob: just use iPeng, then hit the lock button at the top of your device.
