I have Variety set to 0 in both the global and player settings. The MiP
Headless settings have Variety = 5 and Style = 2. I have never altered
the Headless settings, since they seem to have no effect on the mixes
MusicIP creates within LMS.

I have tried Style settings of 0, 71, 100, 150, 200, etc. These change
the mixes I get, but not the fact that, if Variety = 0, the mixes are
the same every time. Right now I have Style = 150 in both global and
player settings.

Have you tried this in MiP GUI? This is how the MiP GUI works for me.
This is one thing that has persuaded me that this is how it's supposed
to work.

Further confirmation seems to come from Sidhue's post that you kindly
directed me to: "If you select 0 [variety] you will always get the same
"best" mix from a given seed song based on your other settings."

However, in playing around with this more, I've found that I don't get
the same mix every time unless BOTH the global and player Variety
settings are set to 0. If either is set to nonzero, then I get
different mixes. Oddly, the "Player settings for each mix" setting
seems not to affect this. From the name, it sounds like setting this to
Yes should allow individual player settings to override the global
settings. But it doesn't seem to work that way. (I find the "i" button
text for this setting ambiguous: "You may choose to give each player
access to the MusicIP mix settings before generating a mix. Any
player-chosen settings will override the server settings and remain,
until they are changed again from the player. If you wish to skip
directly to creating a mix, using existing player/server settings only,
then choose no.")

Re Style, I get the impression from Sidhue's post that it's a sort of
composite fingerprint from multiple songs by a given artist. That makes
sense, and it's a cool idea. Too bad my artists for a given song are all
in a single tag separated by a separator character. LMS parses these
into individual artists for me, but MiP doesn't. So since most of my
songs have multiple artists, and they often change within an album,
since personnel often differ from track to track on an album, I have an
awful lot of "artists" by MiP's reckoning that don't have enough songs
to generate the composite fingerprint.
