My understanding is that analysis and validation are two parts of the same process, and are performed whether you use the server or the headless web interface. First of all, MusicIP does an analysis of the track, then it check to see if the fingerprint created during the analysis process is already in the MIP database (accessed over the internet). If there is, it applies the database info to the track. If not, it generates a more detailed fingerprint (that's when you see the "validating" bit if you are using the application interface and that's what takes the most time).
