After looking the full log file, it looks like a large percentage of
cases return a successful rating- I assume this line indicates so:

[08-07-06 08:23:00.4587] Plugins::CustomScan::Scanner::exitScanTrack
(1690) Calling:
Plugins::TrackStat::Plugin->musicmagicexport::exitScanTrack

When I input one the 'timed out' song into a web browser,

http://192.168.0.2:10002/api/setRating?song=C%3A%2FDocuments%20and%20Settings%2FSteven%2FMy%20Documents%2FMy%20Music%2FA%20to%20D%2FBlonde%20Redhead%20-%2023%2F02%20-%20Dr.%20Strangeluv.mp3&rating=5

...it returns a webpage with "1" within a second. I assume that this
indicates a successful return- I checked this by using the "Show Rating
of Song" function of Spicefly's headless webpage, it returns the correct
rating.
However, what perhaps has thrown me, is if I then go into the MusicIP
GUI, and find the relevant track, it still has no rating. Neither does
not update if I click "Refresh Songs" or exit the application and
restart.
When/how does the rating data become available to the GUI? Today I
noticed in the GUI that a lot of my songs had populated with the
correct ratings, now I am thinking that these had rated successfully
via the Custom Scan export after all, but were maybe just not yet
visible in the GUI?

(I guess my occasional timeouts are happening because of an unreliable
wireless connection from my server to my router, which is another
story)
