I thought that, and created a test mplayer.sh script to output the
contents of the /dev/fd folder and I got the following output:

lr-x------ 1 slim media 64 2007-10-01 13:31 0 -> pipe:[6839687]
l-wx------ 1 slim media 64 2007-10-01 13:31 1 -> /tmp/fd.txt
lrwx------ 1 slim media 64 2007-10-01 13:31 2 -> /dev/pts/5
lr-x------ 1 slim media 64 2007-10-01 13:31 3 -> /proc/24327/fd
lrwx------ 1 slim media 64 2007-10-01 13:31 7 -> socket:[6827638]

Process 24327 doesn't exist when I go and look for it, but I think it
might either be the 'ls' command I put in the shell script wrapper, or
another process that's part of the audio transcoding pipe that goes away
quickly.
