if you want the solution to cope with passing through DTS HD or Dolby True HD or Atmos Audio it gets much more awkward as not many apps pass through the signal in my experience.
Kodi or Plex on a dedicated NUC (or similar) are the only ways I've found to get full HD audio passthrough.
