In the process of ripping the remainder of my CDs at the moment as my trusty CD player finally bit the dust (and Naim can no longer fix them) and switched from v1.3.2 to v1.4.2 on the last batch. They are playing fine on my Touch. So I would say it seems safe enough to upgrade and the encoding time is slightly faster.
