That is still an issue, but it has improved some. At some point, maybe a year or two ago, the app seems to have been thoroughly re-written. It looks much the same, but is considerably more responsive. But it still takes too long to load a long list, so it's not a great app to use with large collections. LMS 8 nightly running on Raspberry Pi OS.
