LMS 8 is very very early alpha. Almost every plugin will need updated (If you look around, there are already posts showing you what you need to modify on each plugin to make it work.
The only update required today would be bumping the maxVersion string in the install.xml file. None of the changes so far should be breaking backwards compatibility.
I would Stick with 7.9.2.
That's the safest place for sure. 8.0 really is for the brave and Spotty users who want to test the new library integration feature.
