Did some quick research. Apparently it effects Spotify too, but not Google Play music. So Google probably changed something and didn't tell anyone.
As a side not, I found a forum post claiming that you can fix the problem by uninstalling Android Wear. If you don't have an Android Wear watch, that might be a quick fix.
