Re WinSCP
If you install Notepad++ and add it in WinSCP options or prefs (can't
recall where) then when you open a file for editing then you can specify
Notepad++
Why would you want to? Notepad++ includes line numbers for one and
fantastic search and replace tools amongst other things. 
Notepad is rubbish in comparison.
