I just bought a PI 3 & an Hifiberry Digi + Pro and was able to install and do upgrades without purchasing an activation code. But as Giza2020 pointed out it really is nice & I hope they continue developing it. I am also impressed with the sound card a fair improvement over my Duet I was running optical out and with the Digi + Pro the RCA out has a output transformer that even my old ears can tell makes a difference. But to be able to run the server on it too, is very nice. Even doing the mount point was a breeze.
