Hi there,

I'm really missing a feature when using my Squeezebox that would enable
you to browse your music with Windows explorer and start playing a song
just with a double click on the file.

So do you think it would it be possible to associate a small
application / a plug-in or the Slimserver itself with music files like
.mp3 and let them become the default Windows player for that file
types?
I think it would be great and easy to browse through your music in
Windows explorer and if you find a song you like, just double-click it
and instead of like WinAmp it plays on the Squeezebox. To make this
even more comfortable a right-click-option to enqueue the song to the
now playing list would be also cool.
This would also have the advantage to be able to play songs that are
not in the server library yet, like new downloads you just want to try
out or sound files that you don't want to add to your library at all.

To make something like this possible, probably the Slimserver function
to play an internet radio station address could be used. If you enter a
file location into the Radio URL field on the Internet Radio user
interface of Slimserver in the format file:///C:/folder/file.ext, it
plays the song wherever it is located on your hard drive, no matter if
it is in shared folder scanned by Slimserver or not.
So basically it would just need to find a way to get the address from
windows explorer to that interface of Slimserver.

Besides this I also noticed that the browse folder function of
Slimserver sees any new files without rescanning the library. Don't
know if this could be of any help either.

Let me know what you think of this and if somebody might like to
program something like that... :)

Thanks,

cosmo
