This sounds like the problem. Not sure *why* your setup is like that, but I think we can fix it.

Try this...
Enter the CPAN shell again, then:
o conf make /usr/bin/make

after that, you should see /usr/bin/make on the make line when you type
'o conf' alone.

Try the install command again. Hopefully now it works. Let me know...
