Keith,

My experience is much better, and based on having only the current Dell
Latitude E5410.

I thought there was a bad keyboard and Dell immediately shipped a new one
and the repair tech was here the next day. Turned out it was only a piece of
plastic that was bent up between a couple of keys. I still have the new
keyboard. Last year I renewed by maintenance contract for the last two years
of the 5-year support life. It is less expensive than a new computer.

In 1990 I bought a Gateway portable. It was designed and built by Texas
Instruments. Came with a 12 month warranty. In month 13 the internal power
supplied failed. I paid for the replacement. Thirteen months later, that
power supply failed, too. The Gateway tech told me it was a bad design by
TI. I junked the computer, vowed to never buy another Gateway product, and
haven't.

So, each of us has different experiences with all vendors; it probably
reflects when we had our experiences and the particular models involved.

Rich
