FWIW, the Buffalo WZR600DHP has:

  * Dual-band 802.11N atheros radios (WRT54G has one crappy broadcom 802.11g)
  * 128MB of RAM (WRT54G has 16? or 32, depending on version)
  * 680MHz MIPS CPU (WRT54G has 200MHz, older generation MIPS)
  * 32MB of flash (WRT54G has 2 or 4, depending on version)
  * USB2 host port (WRT54G does not have)
  * gigabit ethernet (WRT54G has 10/100 ethernet)

They perform *SO* much better, we're in the process of upgrading all
our older hardware as fast as money becomes available (usually by
convincing our node hosts they will be happier enough to spring for
one).

There are some TP-Link and Netgear equivalents. I also like the
Netgear WNDR3800, but when I started shopping for them, they were no
longer available readily. We got 3 or 4 of them on ebay, but it was
spotty. The Buffalo's are still available retail.
